EVERGREENS

Evergreens is a Club for older people which meets, usually on the last Wednesday of the month in the Reading Room (behind the library), where we have a speaker, often with local interest, and then enjoy afternoon tea together. Alternatively we enjoy a coach trip to “far flung” places, for example, a seaside venue in August. We are affiliated to the WRVS but not committed to joining that organisation. There is a membership of about 30, but we are always keen to welcome new members who find themselves at a loose end on a Wednesday afternoon.

For more information and to join contact Jane Allen-Brown 07816 156944.‬

FIRST SATURDAY COFFEE MORNINGS

The First Saturday Coffee mornings take place on the first Saturday of every month (unless otherwise indicated), starting at 10.00am through till 12.00pm in the main hall of the Leintwardine Centre. Not only can you get a cup of coffee or tea and a slice of excellent cake, you can also buy local produce, bric-a-brac, books, handmade jewellery and a wide variety of other things, depending on who turns up on the day. If you have something you’d like to sell, you can rent your own table for £6 per session. Please contact Kim Smith to find out more.

The Library and the History Society in the adjoining Reading Room building are open during First Saturdays.

All proceeds go into the fund for maintaining and improving the facilities of the Leintwardine Centre.

ACTIVITIES

Play readings
These usually take place on the third Thursday of the month except for July and August when we all have a holiday! They are open to anyone and people who just want to listen are very welcome. Some play readings are rehearsed while others are read straight off the page. Either way  it can be a really entertaining evening. Non-members are very welcome and entry is free.

Recent play readings
These have included: God of Carnage by Yasmin Reza, An Inspector Calls and They Came To A City by JB Priestley, Last Tango In Leintwardine by David Tristram, Flare Path by Terence Rattigan and a rehearsed adaptation of Twelfth Night.

Past productions
In 2011, we staged a potted pantomime called Forty Winks Beauty as part of a Christmas variety show. In June 2012, as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Leintwardine, we gave a fully-staged and costumed reading of highlights from The Importance of Being Earnest. And at Christmas 2012, we jointly produced a Victorian Christmas Music Hall with our friends from Adforton and in 2018, to celebrate the centenary of the 1918 Armistice, we presented A Leintwardine 1918 Christmas Celebration.
